Jonathan Purnell

Jonathan Q. Purnell, MD, FTOS, is a Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) with appointments in the Knight Cardiovascular Institute and the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Clinical Nutrition. He is board-certified in Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine. His clinical research interests include the causes and consequences of central obesity, effect of intensive diabetes therapy on weight gain in patients with type-1 and type-2 diabetes, mechanisms of how changes in diet composition (fat, carbohydrate, and protein) affect appetite and body weight in humans, and post-bariatric surgery outcomes in the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery study. He is also medical director of the OHSU Interdisciplinary Obesity Clinic and serves on the Education Committee for The Obesity Society.
